Pantethine

Pantethine is a derivative of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), consisting of two pantetheine molecules joined by a disulphide bond, supplied by Nustras as a powder standardised to its pantethine content and used as a vitamin B5 derivative in supplements and nutritional formulations. Pantetheine is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of coenzyme A, the cofactor through which pantothenic acid takes part in metabolism.

It is formulated into vitamin B5 and B-complex supplements in capsule, tablet and softgel form, into multivitamin and nutritional premixes, and into specialised formulations that call for pantethine rather than calcium pantothenate. Because the pure substance is hygroscopic and viscous, the standardised powder is the usual choice for dry blending and encapsulation.
