Methylcobalamin is a coenzyme form of vitamin B12 in which a methyl group is bound to the central cobalt atom of the corrin ring, supplied by Nustras as a dark red crystalline powder for nutritional use. Vitamin B12 is a cobalt-containing water-soluble vitamin; methylcobalamin is one of its two naturally occurring coenzyme forms.
It is formulated into vitamin B12 and B-complex supplements, multivitamins, sublingual and orally disintegrating tablets, capsules, lozenges and gummies, vitamin premixes, and fortified foods and beverages where the methyl form of cobalamin is specified instead of cyanocobalamin.
The material is a dark red crystalline powder; CAS 13422-55-4, molecular formula C63H91CoN13O14P, molecular weight 1344.4. Assay, water content and related substances are standardised to specification; identity and assay are confirmed by HPLC and UV spectroscopy, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis. The compound is light-sensitive and is handled and stored protected from light.
Nustras supplies methylcobalamin in bulk commercial quantities, in sealed light-protective packaging and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Methylcobalamin is an accepted vitamin B12 source in major supplement and food markets; buyers confirm the permitted form and level for their application.
