Calcium ascorbate is the calcium salt of L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C), supplied by Nustras as a white to faintly yellow powder and in coated and granular DC grades, and used as a buffered, near-neutral source of vitamin C that also contributes calcium.
It is formulated into vitamin C and multivitamin supplements in tablet, capsule and powder form, into vitamin premixes, and into fortified foods and beverages, and is also used as an antioxidant food additive.
The material is a white to faintly yellow crystalline powder or granule, soluble in water. CAS 5743-27-1, molecular formula C12H14CaO12, molecular weight 390.31. Ascorbic acid content, calcium content, loss on drying, pH and particle size are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by infrared spectroscopy and assay by iodometric titration or high-performance liquid chromatography, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis. The material is of Chinese origin.
Nustras supplies calcium ascorbate in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Calcium ascorbate is an accepted food additive and vitamin C source in major markets; buyers confirm the vitamin C and elemental-calcium contribution, grade and permitted level for their application.
