Fish oil is the refined oil obtained from the body tissues of oily fish such as anchovy, sardine and mackerel, supplied by Nustras as a clear liquid oil and used as a source of the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) for supplements and functional foods. The oil is a mixture of triglycerides whose fatty-acid profile depends on the species and the degree of refining.
It is formulated into softgel capsules, liquid supplements and emulsions, into functional foods and beverages, into infant and medical nutrition products, and into animal-feed, pet-food and cosmetic products.
The material is a clear liquid oil. EPA and DHA content, total omega-3 fatty acids, acid value, peroxide value and anisidine value are standardised to specification; the fatty-acid profile is confirmed by gas chromatography, and heavy-metal, environmental-contaminant and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies fish oil in bulk commercial quantities, in sealed drums and other liquid packaging, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Fish oil is an accepted food and supplement ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted EPA and DHA level and claim for their application.
