Zinc pidolate, also known as zinc pyroglutamate or zinc PCA, is the zinc salt of pidolic acid (L-pyroglutamic acid, the cyclic lactam of glutamic acid), supplied by Nustras as a white powder and used as a source of the mineral zinc in supplements and as a functional ingredient in cosmetics. Pidolic acid is a naturally occurring amino-acid derivative, and its zinc salt is a stable, water-soluble compound.
It is formulated into zinc and multimineral supplements in tablet, capsule, powder and lozenge form, into mineral premixes and fortified foods, and into cosmetic and personal-care products such as creams, cleansers, deodorants and hair-care preparations, where zinc PCA is a well-established ingredient.
The material is a white to almost white crystalline powder, soluble in water. CAS number 15454-75-8, molecular formula C10H12N2O6Zn, molecular weight 321.6. Zinc content, pidolic acid content, loss on drying, pH and optical rotation are standardised to specification; identity and assay are confirmed by complexometric titration and infrared spectroscopy, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies zinc pidolate in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Zinc pidolate is an accepted zinc source in major supplement markets and a listed cosmetic ingredient; buyers confirm the elemental-zinc contribution, grade and permitted level for their application.
