Zinc carnosine, also written carnosine zinc or zinc L-carnosine, is a chelate compound in which the mineral zinc is bound to L-carnosine, a dipeptide of beta-alanine and L-histidine. Nustras supplies it as a powder for supplement use. Zinc is an essential trace element and a cofactor for many enzymes; carnosine is a naturally occurring dipeptide found in muscle tissue.
Zinc carnosine is formulated into zinc and trace-mineral supplements in tablets, capsules and powders, into combination mineral and amino-acid products, into nutritional premixes and into functional foods and beverages where a chelated zinc form is specified by the formulator.
The material is a white to off-white powder. CAS number 107667-60-7, molecular formula C9H12N4O3Zn, molecular weight 289.6. Zinc is assayed by complexometric titration or ICP and carnosine by HPLC; identity is confirmed by infrared spectroscopy and the material is standardised to specification. Heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies zinc carnosine in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Zinc is a permitted mineral source in major supplement markets; buyers confirm the elemental-zinc contribution and permitted level for their application.
