Calcium alpha-ketoglutarate monohydrate (calcium AKG) is the calcium salt of alpha-ketoglutaric acid (2-oxoglutaric acid) carrying one molecule of water of crystallisation, supplied by Nustras as a white powder in standard powder, micronised and direct-compression granular grades. Alpha-ketoglutarate is an intermediate of the citric acid (Krebs) cycle.
It is formulated into dietary supplements, capsules, tablets and powdered blends, sports-nutrition and active-nutrition products, and vitamin-mineral premixes; the granular grades are used for tableting and the micronised grade where a fine particle size is required.
The material is a white to off-white powder or granule; CAS 402726-78-7, molecular formula C5H6CaO6, molecular weight 202.18. Assay, calcium content, water content and particle size are standardised to specification per grade; identity and assay are confirmed by HPLC or titration and water content by Karl Fischer, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies calcium AKG in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade packages and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. The regulatory status of calcium alpha-ketoglutarate as a supplement ingredient differs between markets; buyers confirm its permitted status, the elemental-calcium contribution and the permitted level for their application.
