Ferrous bisglycinate (20% Fe powder)

Ferrous bisglycinate is an iron amino acid chelate in which one iron(II) ion is bound to two glycine molecules, supplied by Nustras as a powder grade with the iron content standardised to specification and used as an iron source for supplements and food fortification. Iron is an essential mineral; the bisglycinate is a neutral, organically bound form.

It is formulated into iron and multimineral supplements in tablet, capsule and powder form, into vitamin and mineral premixes, and into fortified flours, cereals and nutritional powders where a stable iron source is required.

The material is a pale yellowish-green to greyish powder. CAS number 20150-34-9, molecular formula C4H8FeN2O4, molecular weight 203.96. Iron content, ferric iron and loss on drying are standardised to specification; identity and assay are confirmed by titration or ICP for iron, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
