Colloidal Oatmeal

Colloidal oatmeal is whole oat grain (Avena sativa) that has been dehulled, milled to a very fine particle size so that it disperses in water to form a milky suspension. Nustras supplies it as a fine powder; it retains the bran and germ, and therefore the oat's natural beta-glucan, protein, lipids and avenanthramides.

It is formulated into cosmetic and personal-care products such as bath powders, cleansers, lotions, creams and soaps as a skin-conditioning and emollient ingredient, and into food and nutritional products such as oat beverages, bars, bakery mixes and supplement powders.

The material is a cream to pale tan, free-flowing powder with a mild oat odour. Particle size, dispersibility and loss on drying are standardised to specification, and identity is confirmed by microscopy and starch and protein tests; heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
