Chondroitin sulfate is a sulfated glycosaminoglycan, a naturally occurring complex carbohydrate of animal cartilage and connective tissue, supplied by Nustras as chondroitin sulfate sodium, a white to off-white powder, for dietary supplements. Chemically it is a chain of alternating N-acetylgalactosamine and glucuronic acid units carrying sulfate groups, obtained by extraction and purification from animal cartilage.
It is formulated into capsules, tablets, powders and liquid preparations in the supplement sector, and is also used in functional foods and beverages, in veterinary and pet-nutrition products and in cosmetic formulations.
The material is a white to off-white, hygroscopic powder (CAS 9007-28-7; molecular formula C13H21NO15S, molecular weight 463.37 for the repeating disaccharide unit). Chondroitin sulfate content, loss on drying, pH and specific rotation are standardised to specification; identity and assay are confirmed by cetylpyridinium chloride titration and infrared spectroscopy, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies chondroitin sulfate in bulk commercial quantities, in sealed packaging and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Chondroitin sulfate is an accepted supplement ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the animal source, permitted level and claim for their application.
