Bifidobacterium adolescentis

Category: Functional Ingredients

Bifidobacterium adolescentis is a Gram-positive, anaerobic bacterium of the genus Bifidobacterium, one of the species commonly isolated from the adult human intestinal tract, supplied by Nustras as a freeze-dried bacterial culture powder for use as a probiotic ingredient. Bifidobacteria are lactic-acid-producing organisms characterised by the fructose-6-phosphate phosphoketolase pathway, which distinguishes them from other lactic acid bacteria.

It is formulated into probiotic supplements in capsule, sachet, stick-pack and powder form, into multi-strain probiotic blends, and into functional foods and beverages. Depending on grade it is supplied pure or standardised on a carrier such as maltodextrin.

The material is an off-white to cream, free-flowing freeze-dried powder. Viable count (CFU/g) is standardised to specification and determined by anaerobic plate count; strain identity is confirmed by 16S rRNA sequencing or an equivalent genotypic method, and heavy-metal and microbial limits, including the absence of specified pathogens, are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.

Nustras supplies Bifidobacterium adolescentis in bulk commercial quantities, in sealed moisture-barrier packaging within fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Bifidobacterium adolescentis is an accepted probiotic species in major supplement markets; buyers confirm the permitted strain, dose and claim for their application.
