Triiodothyronine (T3) is a thyroid hormone involved in metabolism, growth, temperature regulation, and heart rate. It is one of the two primary thyroid hormones (with thyroxine/T4) and is more active than T4. It is used in the treatment of hypothyroidism and can be synthetically produced for pharmaceutical use (e.g., as liothyronine sodium).
