Thymol is a natural monoterpenoid phenol, originally found in thyme oil (especially from Thymus vulgaris). Synthetic thymol is produced in the lab to replicate the natural compound and is widely used for antimicrobial and antifungal applications, flavoring and fragrance (in oral care and food), as a preservative in food and cosmetic industries, and in pharmaceuticals (e.g., mouthwashes, antiseptics).
