Gamma-butyrobetaine (4-(trimethylammonio)butanoate, GBB) is a quaternary ammonium compound and the immediate biosynthetic precursor of L-carnitine, supplied by Nustras as a white crystalline powder for the dietary supplement and specialty nutrition market. In mammals it is converted to carnitine by the enzyme gamma-butyrobetaine dioxygenase.
GBB is formulated into sports-nutrition and specialty supplements in capsule, tablet and powder form, including pre-workout and amino-acid blends, and into premixes for nutritional formulations.
The material is a white to off-white crystalline, hygroscopic powder, readily soluble in water. CAS 407-64-7, molecular formula C7H15NO2, molecular weight 145.20. Assay, loss on drying, residue on ignition and related substances are standardised to specification in USP-grade material; identity is confirmed by infrared spectroscopy and high-performance liquid chromatography, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies gamma-butyrobetaine in bulk commercial quantities, in sealed packaging and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Gamma-butyrobetaine is used as a supplement ingredient in several markets; buyers confirm its regulatory status, permitted level and claim for their application in their jurisdiction.
