Eugenol is a naturally occurring phenylpropanoid phenol (4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol), the principal constituent of clove oil also present in cinnamon leaf and bay oils, supplied by Nustras as a clear, colourless to pale yellow liquid for flavour, fragrance and technical applications. It is obtained by fractionation of clove oil or by synthesis and has the warm, spicy odour of clove.
It is used as a flavouring substance in confectionery, baked goods, beverages and oral-care products, as a fragrance raw material, as a component of zinc oxide-eugenol dental materials, and as a starting material for vanillin and other aroma chemicals.
The material is a clear, colourless to pale yellow liquid that darkens in air and light. CAS number 97-53-0, molecular formula C10H12O2, molecular weight 164.20. Purity, refractive index and specific gravity are standardised to specification; identity and assay are confirmed by GC, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies eugenol in bulk commercial quantities, in sealed lined drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Eugenol is an accepted flavouring substance and fragrance ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted level and use for their application.
