Betaine HCL

Category: Chemicals

Betaine HCl (betaine hydrochloride, trimethylglycine hydrochloride) is the hydrochloride salt of betaine, a naturally occurring trimethylated derivative of the amino acid glycine found in sugar beet, supplied by Nustras as a white crystalline powder for the supplement, food and feed sector. It is water-soluble and gives an acidic solution, releasing hydrochloric acid on dissolution, which distinguishes it from anhydrous betaine.

It is formulated into dietary supplements in capsule and tablet form, including digestive-enzyme blends and sports-nutrition products, into animal-feed and aquaculture premixes as a methyl-donor and feed-attractant ingredient, and into pharmaceutical and personal-care formulations as an acidifying and conditioning agent.

The material is a white crystalline powder. CAS number 590-46-5, molecular formula C5H12ClNO2, molecular weight 153.61. Assay, chloride content, loss on drying, residue on ignition and pH of solution are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by infrared spectrum and chloride test, assay by titration, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.

Nustras supplies betaine HCl in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Betaine hydrochloride is an accepted supplement and feed ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted level and claim for their application.
