Activated charcoal (activated carbon) is a highly porous form of carbon produced by carbonising plant material, typically coconut shell, and activating it at high temperature to create a large internal adsorptive surface. Nustras supplies it as a fine black powder for use as an adsorbent ingredient.
It is formulated into capsules, tablets and powdered supplements, into foods and beverages as a black colouring and adsorbent ingredient, into oral-care and cosmetic products, and is used in water and air filtration and for decolourising process liquids.
The material is a black powder, odourless and tasteless; CAS number 97793-37-8, elemental carbon (C). Adsorptive capacity (iodine or methylene blue value), particle size, moisture, ash and pH are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by the compendial identification tests for activated charcoal, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies activated charcoal in bulk commercial quantities, in sealed food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Activated charcoal (vegetable carbon) is an accepted food colour, processing aid and supplement ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted grade, use and level for their application.
