Vasaka (Justicia adhatoda, synonym Adhatoda vasica), also called Malabar nut, is an evergreen shrub of the family Acanthaceae native to the Indian subcontinent, where the leaf is a long-established ingredient of Ayurvedic tradition. Nustras supplies the dried leaf as a milled powder and as a powdered extract for botanical supplements. The leaf contains quinazoline alkaloids, chiefly vasicine and vasicinone.
Vasaka leaf powder and extract are formulated into botanical and Ayurvedic-category supplements in capsule, tablet and powder form, into herbal syrups, teas and blends, and into functional beverages.
The material is a green to greyish-green powder with a characteristic odour and bitter taste. Vasicine content for extracts, loss on drying, ash and particle size are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by thin-layer chromatography or HPLC against a reference, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies vasaka in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Vasaka is a traditional herbal ingredient whose regulatory status varies by market; buyers confirm the permitted use, level and claim for their application.
