Terminalia Chebula

Category: Botanicals

Terminalia chebula (chebulic myrobalan, haritaki) is a deciduous tree of the Combretaceae family whose dried fruit is a traditional botanical raw material in South and Southeast Asia. Nustras supplies Terminalia chebula as a dried fruit powder and as extract powder for the supplement and natural-products sector. The fruit is rich in hydrolysable tannins, including chebulagic acid, chebulinic acid and gallic acid.

It is formulated into botanical supplements in capsule, tablet and powder form, into traditional-formula herbal blends such as triphala-type combinations, and into herbal teas and functional food products. It is also used in cosmetic and personal-care formulations where a plant tannin ingredient is required.

The material is a yellowish-brown to brown powder with a characteristic astringent taste. Tannin content, particle size, loss on drying and ash are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by botanical identification and HPLC or TLC fingerprint, and heavy-metal, pesticide-residue and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.

Nustras supplies Terminalia chebula in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Terminalia chebula fruit is an accepted botanical ingredient in major supplement markets; buyers confirm the permitted plant part, level and claim for their application.
