Sophora Japnica

Category: Botanicals

Sophora japonica (Japanese pagoda tree, Styphnolobium japonicum) is a deciduous tree of the legume family whose dried flower buds and fruits are a long-established botanical raw material. Nustras supplies it as a dried botanical powder and as extract powder for the supplement and natural-products sector. The flower bud is a rich plant source of the flavonoid rutin, with quercetin and sophoricoside also present.

It is formulated into botanical and flavonoid supplements in capsule, tablet and powder form, into herbal blends and traditional-formula products, and serves as a starting material for rutin and quercetin production. It is also used in cosmetic and personal-care formulations.

The material is a yellowish to greenish-brown powder. Flavonoid (rutin) content, particle size, loss on drying and ash are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by botanical identification and HPLC or TLC fingerprint, and heavy-metal, pesticide-residue and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.

Nustras supplies Sophora japonica in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. The flower bud is an accepted botanical ingredient in major supplement markets; buyers confirm the permitted plant part, level and claim for their application.
