Senna Extract

Senna extract is a concentrated extract of the dried leaf of Cassia angustifolia (Tinnevelly senna), a legume shrub cultivated mainly in India, supplied by Nustras as a brown powder standardised to the sennosides. Sennosides A and B are dianthrone glycosides and the marker compounds by which senna leaf is defined in the major pharmacopoeias.

The extract is formulated into botanical and herbal preparations in capsule, tablet and powder form, into traditional multi-herb blends, and into herbal teas where a standardised senna leaf extract is specified by the formulator.

The material is a light brown to dark brown powder standardised to not less than 20.0 % sennosides by UV. Identity is confirmed by thin-layer chromatography according to Chinese Pharmacopoeia methods, and heavy-metal, pesticide-residue and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
