Scutellaria baicalensis (Baikal skullcap or Chinese skullcap) is a perennial herb of the mint family whose dried root is a long-established botanical ingredient in East Asia, supplied by Nustras as a 4:1 root extract powder. The root is characterised by its flavone content, principally baicalin, baicalein and wogonin.
The extract is formulated into botanical and herbal supplements in capsule, tablet and powder form, into traditional multi-herb blends and premixes, and into functional beverages and cosmetic preparations where a standardised skullcap root extract is required.
The material is a yellow fine powder prepared as a 4:1 extract of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi root. Extract ratio, loss on drying (USP <731>), residue on ignition (USP <281>) and particle size are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by botanical identification and thin-layer or high-performance liquid chromatography, and heavy-metal and microbial limits (USP <2021> and <2022>) are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis. The material is of Chinese origin.
Nustras supplies Scutellaria baicalensis root extract in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Scutellaria baicalensis root is an accepted botanical ingredient in major supplement markets; buyers confirm the permitted plant part, extract ratio and claim for their application.
