Rhubarb

Rhubarb is the dried root and rhizome of medicinal rhubarb, Rheum species such as Rheum palmatum and Rheum officinale, distinct from garden rhubarb; Nustras supplies it as cut dried root and as a milled powder. Rhubarb root contains hydroxyanthracene derivatives (anthraquinones such as emodin and rhein and their glycosides), together with tannins and flavonoids.

The material is yellowish-brown to reddish-brown root pieces or a yellow-brown powder with a bitter, astringent taste.
