Pomelo

Pomelo is the largest of the citrus fruits, Citrus maxima, supplied by Nustras as a dried powder prepared from the fruit and its thick peel. Pomelo flesh and peel contain citrus flavanones, chiefly naringin, together with pectin, dietary fibre and a peel essential oil rich in limonene.

Pomelo powder is formulated into functional foods and beverages, powdered drink mixes, fruit and citrus blends, botanical supplements in capsule and tablet form, and cosmetic and personal-care products where a citrus-derived ingredient is wanted.

The material is a pale yellow to yellowish-brown powder with a citrus odour and a bitter-sweet taste. Plant part, particle size and moisture are standardised to specification; botanical identity is confirmed by HPTLC and naringin content is determined by HPLC where a standardised grade is ordered. Heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
