Polygala senega root, also called senega, is the dried root and rootstock of Polygala senega, a small perennial herb native to North America, supplied by Nustras as cut dried root and as a milled powder. The root contains triterpene saponins (senegins and polygalasaponins) and methyl salicylate, which gives it its characteristic odour.
Polygala senega root is formulated into herbal syrups and lozenges, liquid herbal extracts and tinctures, botanical supplements in capsule and tablet form, and herbal tea blends.
The material is light yellowish-brown twisted root pieces or a yellowish-brown powder with a wintergreen-like odour and an acrid taste. Cut size, moisture and foreign-matter content are standardised to specification; botanical identity is confirmed by macroscopic and microscopic examination and by HPTLC, with a grade available to the European Pharmacopoeia monograph for senega root. Heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies polygala senega root in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Senega root is an accepted herbal ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted level and claim for their application. Contact us for grade, pricing per kilogram and lead time.
