Peanut Coat

Category: Botanicals

Peanut coat, also called peanut skin or testa, is the thin reddish-brown seed coat of the peanut (Arachis hypogaea, family Fabaceae) that is removed from the kernel during blanching. Nustras supplies it as a dried, milled powder and as a powdered extract. The seed coat is rich in polyphenols, chiefly proanthocyanidins, together with dietary fibre.

Peanut coat powder and extract are formulated into botanical supplements in capsule, tablet and powder form, into functional foods and beverages, into natural colouring applications, and into cosmetics.

The material is a reddish-brown to brown powder with a mild characteristic odour. Polyphenol or proanthocyanidin content, loss on drying, ash and particle size are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by botanical examination or thin-layer chromatography against a reference, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis. As a peanut-derived material it is subject to allergen labelling.

Nustras supplies peanut coat in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Peanut skin is an accepted food-derived ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted use, level, allergen declaration and claim for their application.
