Oat beta-glucan is a soluble dietary fibre extracted from the cell walls of oat grain (Avena sativa), supplied by Nustras as a powder standardised to its beta-glucan content and used as a fibre ingredient in foods, beverages, supplements and cosmetics. Chemically it is a linear polysaccharide of glucose units joined by mixed β-(1→3) and β-(1→4) linkages, which gives it its characteristic viscosity in water.
It is formulated into functional foods and beverages such as cereal and bakery products, dairy and plant-based drinks, meal replacements and nutrition bars, into fibre supplements in capsule, powder and sachet form, and into cosmetic preparations as a film-forming and conditioning ingredient.
The material is a white to off-white or pale cream powder with a bland taste. CAS number 9041-22-9. Beta-glucan content, moisture, protein, fat, ash and viscosity are standardised to specification; identity and beta-glucan assay are confirmed by the enzymatic mixed-linkage beta-glucan method, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies oat beta-glucan in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Oat beta-glucan is an accepted food and supplement ingredient in major markets, and specific claims are regulated by content and serving; buyers confirm the permitted level and claim for their application.
