Nori

Nori is an edible red seaweed of the genera Pyropia and Porphyra, supplied by Nustras as a fine powder milled from the whole dried seaweed and used as a sea-vegetable ingredient in foods and supplements. Although classed as a red alga, the dried seaweed and its powder are dark green because of the chlorophyll and phycobilin pigments it contains.

It is formulated into seasonings, snack coatings, soups, noodle and rice products and savoury flavour blends, into green-food and sea-vegetable supplement powders in capsule, tablet and sachet form, and into plant-based and pet-food products.

The material is a green fine powder with the characteristic marine odour and taste of nori. Particle size, moisture, ash and iodine content are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by botanical and microscopic examination, and heavy-metal, inorganic-arsenic and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
