Marshmallow

Marshmallow is the root, and to a lesser extent the leaf, of Althaea officinalis, a perennial of the Malvaceae family long used in European herbal tradition. The root is characterised by a high content of mucilage polysaccharides, with starch, pectin and sugars.

Dried root is off-white to pale yellowish with a faint odour and a mucilaginous taste; powder is off-white to beige; extracts are light brown. Heavy-metal, pesticide-residue and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
