Maqui Berry

Maqui berry is a fruit ingredient produced from the berries of Aristotelia chilensis, a small evergreen tree of Chile, supplied by Nustras as a water-extract powder dried on a maltodextrin carrier. The deep purple berries are naturally rich in anthocyanins, principally delphinidin glycosides, together with other polyphenols.

Maqui berry powder is formulated into fruit-based and botanical supplements in capsule and tablet form, powdered drink mixes and smoothie blends, functional foods and beverages, and cosmetic and personal-care products where a berry-derived anthocyanin ingredient is wanted.

The material is a purplish-red powder with a fruity odour and taste, readily dispersible in water. Carrier content, moisture and anthocyanin content are standardised to specification; botanical identity is confirmed by HPTLC and total anthocyanins are determined by UV spectrophotometry or HPLC. Heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
