Holy basil (Ocimum sanctum, also classified as Ocimum tenuiflorum), known as tulsi, is an aromatic herb of the mint family. Nustras supplies holy basil as a leaf extract, a fine light brownish-yellow powder standardised to its ursolic acid content, for use as a botanical ingredient in supplements and herbal products. The leaf contains ursolic acid, a triterpene used as the marker compound.
Holy basil extract is formulated into capsules, tablets and powdered blends for the supplement trade, and into herbal teas, functional beverages and cosmetic preparations where the botanical is wanted.
The material is a fine, light brownish-yellow powder with a characteristic odour. Ursolic acid content is standardised to specification and confirmed by HPLC on each lot, and identity is verified against the botanical reference. Loss on drying, residual solvents, heavy-metal, pesticide and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies holy basil extract in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Holy basil is an accepted botanical supplement ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted plant part, extract ratio and claim for their application.
