Butcher's broom is the dried rhizome and root of Ruscus aculeatus, a small evergreen shrub native to the Mediterranean region and western Europe, named for the stiff branches once bound into brooms. Nustras supplies it as dried cut rhizome, milled powder and extract powder. The rhizome contains steroidal saponins, chiefly ruscogenin and neoruscogenin, together with flavonoids and sterols.
Butcher's broom is formulated into botanical supplements in capsule, tablet and liquid form, into multi-herb formulas of the vein and leg-care category, often alongside horse chestnut and hesperidin, and into cosmetic creams and gels.
Supplied as pale brown to greyish-brown cut rhizome or a light brown powder with a faint odour and an acrid taste. Botanical identity is confirmed by macroscopic examination and thin-layer chromatography; ruscogenin content, cut size, moisture and ash are standardised to specification. Heavy-metal, pesticide and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies butcher's broom in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Butcher's broom rhizome is an accepted botanical ingredient in major supplement markets; buyers confirm the preparation, ruscogenin grade and permitted claim for their application.
