Boldo is the dried leaf of Peumus boldus, an evergreen tree native to central Chile, where the aromatic leaves have long been used as a culinary herb and tea. Nustras supplies it as dried cut leaf, milled powder and extract powder. The leaf contains the aporphine alkaloid boldine, flavonoids and an essential oil in which ascaridole and cineole are the main components.
Boldo is formulated into botanical supplements in capsule, tablet and liquid form, into digestive-category and bitters blends alongside artichoke and dandelion, herbal tea mixtures and tinctures, and into flavourings for beverages.
Supplied as greyish-green to brownish-green cut leaf or a green powder with a strong camphor-like aroma and a bitter taste. Botanical identity is confirmed by macroscopic examination and thin-layer chromatography; alkaloid content, cut size, moisture and ash are standardised to specification. Heavy-metal, pesticide and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies boldo in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Boldo leaf is an accepted botanical ingredient in major supplement and food markets; buyers confirm the preparation, ascaridole limit and permitted claim for their application.
