Black currant is the fruit of Ribes nigrum L., a shrub of the gooseberry family native to northern Europe and Asia and widely cultivated for its dark purple berries. Nustras supplies it as a dried fruit powder and as a fruit extract powder; the berry's characteristic constituents are anthocyanins, principally delphinidin and cyanidin glycosides, together with vitamin C and organic acids.
The material is formulated into botanical and fruit supplements in capsule, tablet and powder form, into berry blends, drink mixes and functional beverages, into confectionery and dairy products, and into natural colouring where a black currant fruit ingredient is required.
The material is a dark purple to reddish-purple powder. Anthocyanin content or extract ratio, loss on drying, particle size and solvent residues are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography, and heavy-metal, pesticide-residue and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies black currant in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Ribes nigrum fruit is an accepted food and supplement ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted plant part, preparation and claim for their application.
