Berberis aristata, commonly called Indian barberry or tree turmeric, is a thorny shrub of the Himalayan region whose yellow bark and root are rich in the isoquinoline alkaloid berberine. Nustras supplies Berberis aristata as a bark extract standardised to berberine hydrochloride, in the form of yellow granules, for use as a botanical ingredient in the supplement sector. Berberine is a protoberberine alkaloid, and its hydrochloride salt is the form normally used in dry formulations.
The extract is formulated into botanical supplements in capsule and tablet form, into powdered blends and premixes, and into traditional herbal preparations.
The material is supplied as yellow granules. Berberine hydrochloride (CAS 633-65-8, molecular formula C20H18ClNO4, molecular weight 371.81) is the marker compound; the extract is standardised to specification and offered to USP monograph grade. Identity and assay are determined by HPLC, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies Berberis aristata extract in bulk commercial quantities, in sealed packaging and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Berberis aristata and berberine are accepted botanical supplement ingredients in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted level and claim for their application.
