Avocado soybean unsaponifiables (ASU) are the unsaponifiable fraction of avocado (Persea americana) and soybean (Glycine max) oils, the portion of the oils that does not form soap on alkaline hydrolysis, supplied by Nustras as a light yellow fine powder standardised to total phytosterols. The fraction consists mainly of phytosterols (beta-sitosterol, campesterol and stigmasterol), tocopherols and triterpene alcohols.

It is formulated into dietary supplements, capsules, tablets and softgels, botanical and lipid-based nutritional blends, and cosmetic and personal-care products where an avocado-soybean unsaponifiable ingredient is specified.

The material is a light yellow fine powder. Total phytosterols (not less than 60.0% by gas chromatography, as listed in the specification), loss on drying and particle size are standardised to specification and tested to the European Pharmacopoeia methods referenced in the specification; identity is confirmed by the sterol profile, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
