Asparagus adscendens is a perennial climbing shrub of the Asparagaceae family native to the Himalayan foothills of India and neighbouring regions of Asia, used in Ayurvedic tradition and closely related to Asparagus racemosus (shatavari). Nustras supplies its dried tuberous root as a powder or extract, for use as a botanical ingredient. The roots contain steroidal saponins, polysaccharides and mucilage.
It is formulated into herbal and Ayurvedic-style supplements, capsules, tablets and powdered blends, botanical formulations and herbal teas where this species is specified, either on its own or alongside other traditional root botanicals.
The material is a powder with a characteristic odour. Extract ratio or saponin content, loss on drying, ash and particle size are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by macroscopic and HPTLC comparison with Asparagus adscendens reference material, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies Asparagus adscendens in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. The permitted use of this botanical differs between markets; buyers confirm its regulatory status, the permitted plant part and the permitted level for their application.
