Ashwagandha is a small woody shrub in the nightshade family (Solanaceae), native to India, the Middle East, and parts of Africa. The root and sometimes the leaves are used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for their adaptogenic properties, helping the body resist stress and promote overall balance.
As a bulk ingredient, ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is supplied as milled root powder and as extracts standardised to withanolides (commonly 1.5–5%, HPLC), including branded root-only extracts. It suits dietary supplements, functional foods and beverages — capsules, tablets, gummies and powders — for stress, sleep, energy and cognitive-support formulations. Non-GMO and vegan-suitable grades are available.
