Acai is the small, dark-purple fruit of the acai palm (Euterpe oleracea), a tree native to the Amazon basin, supplied by Nustras as a dried fruit powder and as extract powder, and used as a botanical and fruit ingredient in supplements, foods and beverages. The edible pulp is a thin layer around a large seed; it contains anthocyanin pigments, which give the fruit its colour, together with dietary fibre and a fatty acid fraction.
It is formulated into fruit and botanical supplements in capsule, tablet and powder form, into superfruit and smoothie powder blends, into functional beverages, juices and frozen desserts, into nutrition bars and confectionery, and into cosmetic products where fruit extracts are used.
The material is a fine purple to dark reddish-brown powder with a characteristic fruity odour and taste. Botanical identity, part used, moisture, particle size and, for extract grades, extract ratio or anthocyanin content are standardised to specification; identity is confirmed by macroscopic, microscopic or HPTLC methods, and heavy-metal, pesticide and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies acai in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. Acai fruit is an accepted food and supplement ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted use, level and claim for their application.
