NAC (N-acetyl-L-cysteine) is the N-acetyl derivative of the sulfur-containing amino acid L-cysteine, supplied by Nustras as a white crystalline powder to USP grade and used as an amino-acid ingredient in supplements and nutritional products. Acetylation of the amino group gives a form that is more stable in air and more water-soluble than free cysteine.
It is formulated into amino-acid and sports-nutrition supplements in capsule, tablet, effervescent and powder form, into nutritional premixes, and into cosmetic and technical formulations where a thiol-containing amino-acid derivative is required.
The material is a white crystalline powder or crystals. CAS number 616-91-1, molecular formula C5H9NO3S, molecular weight 163.20. Assay, specific rotation, loss on drying, residue on ignition and pH are standardised to specification; identity and assay are confirmed by the USP identification and titration methods, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies NAC in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags with moisture-barrier liners and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. N-acetylcysteine is accepted as a supplement or natural-product ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted status, level and claim for their application.
