L-Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid that must be obtained from the diet and is one of the 20 standard amino acids used by the body to build proteins. It is a precursor to neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine, and is used in the synthesis of tyrosine. It is sometimes used in dietary supplements for mood support, ADHD, pain management, and vitiligo.
