Category: Amino Acids
L-Methionine is an essential sulphur-containing amino acid, supplied by Nustras as a white crystalline powder, a micronised powder and granules, all in a vegan (fermentation-derived) grade, and used as an amino acid ingredient in supplements, foods, feed and pharmaceutical preparations. Methionine carries a thioether (-S-CH3) side chain and is one of the two sulphur amino acids used in protein synthesis.
It is formulated into amino acid supplements and blends in capsule, tablet and powder form, into sports-nutrition, medical-nutrition and infant-nutrition formulations, into protein-fortified foods, into animal feed and pet food as a supplemental amino acid, and into cell-culture media. The granular and micronised grades suit direct compression and fine blending respectively.
The material is a white crystalline powder, micronised powder or granule with a faint characteristic odour. CAS number 63-68-3, molecular formula C5H11NO2S, molecular weight 149.21. Assay, specific rotation, loss on drying, residue on ignition and chloride are standardised to specification; identity and assay are confirmed by infrared spectroscopy and titration against the relevant pharmacopoeial monograph, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies L-methionine in bulk commercial quantities, in food-grade bags and fibre drums, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. L-Methionine is an accepted amino acid ingredient in major food, supplement and feed markets; buyers confirm the permitted use, level and labelling for their application.
