L-Carnitine (levocarnitine) is a naturally occurring quaternary ammonium compound formed in the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine, supplied by Nustras as a white crystalline powder to USP grade and used as an ingredient for supplements, sports nutrition and functional foods. It is the (R)-enantiomer of carnitine, the form that occurs in nature.
It is formulated into dietary supplements in capsule, tablet and powder form, into sports-nutrition powders, drinks and shots, and into functional foods and beverages.
The material is a white crystalline powder, hygroscopic, with CAS number 541-15-1, molecular formula C7H15NO3 and a molecular weight of 161.20. Assay is standardised to specification at 97.0 to 103.0 % by the USP 43 method; specific rotation, water content, residue on ignition and related compounds are standardised to specification. Identity and assay are confirmed by infrared spectroscopy and titration or HPLC, and heavy-metal and microbial limits are supplied to specification and confirmed on each lot's certificate of analysis.
Nustras supplies L-carnitine in bulk commercial quantities, in sealed packaging, to manufacturers and formulators internationally, with a certificate of analysis, specification sheet and country-of-origin documentation on every lot. L-Carnitine is an accepted supplement and food ingredient in major markets; buyers confirm the permitted level and claim for their application.
